A museum in Aydın devoted to Yörük Ali Efe, a folk hero and commander of the Kuvayı Milliye in the War of Independence, with his belongings, photographs and grave.
Yörük Ali Efe (1895-1951) was born in Kavaklı village in Sultanhisar, in Aydın province. He became a commander of the Kuvayı Milliye, the local resistance forces of the War of Independence, and was awarded the Medal of Independence by the Grand National Assembly. In the Aegean tradition he is remembered as one of the great efes, the local folk heroes.
He asked in his will to be buried in Yenipazar, saying that its people are good and love the soil. His grave in the Muslukuyu cemetery was moved into the museum garden by government decision, so a visit includes the grave as well as the exhibits.
Inside you will find his belongings, photographs, pictures of the War of Independence and ethnographic objects. He was modest about his own role in the war, and often credited the many patriots who felt as he did. A folk song in his honour is also part of his memory.

According to the Ministry’s listing it opens at 08:30 and closes at 17:30 (last entry 17:00). Open every day.
