An underground war museum at Kabatepe on the Gallipoli Peninsula, with animation rooms, dioramas, real trenches and a 65-minute audiovisual show.
The Çanakkale Epic Promotion Centre stands at Kabatepe in the Eceabat district, on the Gallipoli Peninsula, and opened in June 2012. It was created so that the Çanakkale battles are remembered and their spirit passed to younger generations, and it presents the campaign both in order of events and by theme.
The building is sunk completely underground to evoke the idea of martyrdom. At the entrance, two facing memorial walls stand for the Asian and European shores of the strait. One is light and one dark, for peace and war, and three columns on the dark wall stand for the soldiers' faith, courage and love of homeland. Inside, 11 animation rooms, some with moving platforms, present key episodes of the campaign through a 65-minute audiovisual show. Headphone commentary is offered in seven languages, including English and German.
The two exhibition floors add mannequins, dioramas, models, uniforms and equipment, while the open-air grounds hold real trenches and military vehicles. The most moving object is the bloodstained uniform of Captain Eşref Efendi, shown with the patient slip pinned to his jacket. You will also see a statue and belongings of Mustafa Kemal, then a colonel, and a bayonet-charge diorama.

According to the Ministry’s listing it opens at 09:00 and closes at 17:00 (last entry 16:15). Closed: Tuesday.
