Five early-20th-century mansions in Malatya, a prime example of traditional local architecture, now an ethnography museum, currently closed for restoration.
On September 30, 2026 the Ministry’s listing showed this museum as closed to visitors. Check the official page before planning a visit.
Beşkonaklar, the Five Mansions, are among the finest surviving examples of Malatya's traditional civil architecture. They were built in the early 1900s by Hacı Sait Efendi (Turfanda) and his brothers and housed some of the town's leading families. Each mansion follows the same plan, with two floors, a rooftop belvedere (cihannüma), a bay window (cumba) and balconies. The entrance leads into a courtyard, used mainly in summer, with a kitchen with fireplace, a pantry and rooms on either side of the hall, and upstairs a central sofa with rooms around it.
The ethnography museum opened on 8 August 2008 with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism's approval and occupies two buildings. Its rooms display everyday objects of the Ottoman and Republican periods: farm tools, clothing, men's and women's accessories, purses and watches, jewellery, handicrafts, kitchenware, weapons, weaving tools, measuring instruments, lighting, seals, locks, door knockers and musical instruments.

According to the Ministry’s listing it opens at 08:00 and closes at 17:00 (last entry 16:30). Open every day.
