An 18th-century mansion beside the Sarı Mosque, the oldest surviving civil architecture in Edirne, now recreating Rumelian wedding customs, crafts and daily life.
This museum is housed in an 18th-century mansion on Mimar Sinan Street in the Meydan quarter, next to the Sarı Mosque. It is the oldest surviving civil building in Edirne. The mansion was used by Emin Bey, the chief accountant of Edirne, and his family, and after a period empty it became the home of Necmi İğe and his family.
Covering about 900 square metres, it is important for Edirne's ethnography because of its history, materials, plan and the way of life it reflects. It is divided into separate sections for women (haremlik) and men (selamlık), with a ground floor, a mezzanine and an upper floor, seven rooms and six raised seating platforms.
Every corner offers clues to daily life of the period, and the museum tells of the wedding culture, handicrafts, customs and traditions of the region. Scenes are recreated for the marriage proposal, the dowry room, the henna night, the groom's shave, the religious wedding, lead casting, the wedding feast, the bath and the wedding night. Regional costumes from Rumelia and the Balkans are also on display.
Necmi İğe himself, born in 1898, was one of the founders of the Edirne Museum, which adds a personal thread to the story of the house.

According to the Ministry’s listing it opens at 09:00 and closes at 17:30 (last entry 17:00). Closed: Monday.
