Yozgat's museum lives in the Nizamoğlu Mansion, a nineteenth-century house with painted ceilings of 1871, archaeology on the lower floor and Turkish-Islamic ethnography above.
On September 30, 2026 the Ministry’s listing showed this museum as closed to visitors. Check the official page before planning a visit.
Yozgat Museum is housed in the Nizamoğlu Mansion, a nineteenth-century house first built by a non-Muslim Ottoman citizen and later bought by the Nizamoğlu family. Its ground floor has stone walls and the upper floors are timber. The family lived here until the 1970s, after which it served for a time as a girls' art school and then as a warehouse. The state expropriated it in 1979, restored it from 1980, and opened it as a museum in 1985. Museum work in the city itself had begun earlier, in 1977, with a museum office in a small building.
There are ten exhibition halls. Four are on the lower floor of the mansion and hold archaeological finds unearthed in Yozgat province. The remaining halls show ethnographic objects of historic value created by the Turkish-Islamic civilisation. In the garden, stone works from Yozgat and its districts are displayed.
The most beautiful ceiling decoration and painting of the house are in two rooms on the upper floor, which were used to receive guests. The ceilings, still with their original paint and embroidery-like decoration, are worked by hand in a way reminiscent of a carpet. The first room shows many subjects, including Solomon's judgement, Napoleon's wars and the Yozgat fire, and the date 1871 is written on the south edge of the ceiling. In the second room, nature and fairy-tale scenes stand out.

According to the Ministry’s listing it opens at 08:30 and closes at 17:30 (last entry 17:00). Open every day.
