A restored early-Republic barracks in Tunceli with five galleries: archaeology, coins, local ethnography, an Alevi faith section and the Republican era.
The Tunceli Museum occupies a square-plan building put up between 1935 and 1937 as a military barracks. It served the army until 1949, then became housing for civil servants, and by 2015 about sixty-five families lived in it. Because it is a good example of early Republican architecture, the regional board registered it as protected, and in 2015 it was assigned to the culture ministry for museum use. Restoration finished in 2019.
The building stands on about 5,500 square metres of land and rises three storeys on the north side and two on the others. Its inner courtyard of about 1,800 square metres was designed for concerts, theatre, talks and other events, and twenty stone works are displayed there. Inside are exhibition halls, a conference hall, a library, a meeting hall and storage areas.
The displays are organised in five sections. The archaeology gallery shows 340 finds from the region, from the Palaeolithic to the Turkish-Islamic period. The coin gallery has 158 pieces from the Greek to the Ottoman era. The ethnography hall presents 195 objects from the traditional life of the Tunceli area. A faith section explains Alevism through information panels and displays that stand for its rituals. The Republican-period hall closes the story with everyday documents ranging from title deeds to village headmen's seals.

According to the Ministry’s listing it opens at 08:00 and closes at 17:30 (last entry 17:00). Open every day.
