The house where Atatürk stayed in September 1924 during his autumn tour, a three-storey Black Sea home turned into a museum.
This house in Rize is a good example of regional civil architecture, reflecting the character of 20th-century Turkish building. It stands in a garden and has three storeys above a stone basement, which was once used as a store, while the upper floors were living spaces.
After the Republic was proclaimed, Atatürk made a long tour of the country that he called his Autumn Trip. On 17 September 1924 he arrived in Rize and stayed in this house, which belonged to Mataracı Mehmet Efendi, a man he had come to know and value for his efforts during the War of Independence.
For the centenary of Atatürk's birth, the house was donated to the Rize Special Provincial Administration to become an Atatürk museum. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism restored it and it opened to visitors on 27 December 1985. It is a small, personal museum, worth a stop for anyone interested in the Republic's early years or in traditional houses of the eastern Black Sea.

According to the Ministry’s listing it opens at 08:00 and closes at 17:00. Open every day.
