A museum in two restored 1920s mansions north of Gümüşhane's centre, with archaeology, coin and ethnography sections and a garden of stone works.
Gümüşhane Museum is housed in two adjoining mansions dating from about 1920 that belonged to Erol Karabiber and İbrahim Ömürdağ. They were expropriated in 1998, restored between 2004 and 2006 and turned into a museum. The building has three floors including the attic and stands roughly a kilometre north of the city centre.
The garden displays stone works from various periods, brought in from ancient sites within the province such as the ancient city of Satala and the Süleymaniye quarter. They include sarcophagi, columns and capitals, grave stelae, Islamic gravestones, and inscribed and relief stelae along with assorted architectural fragments.
Inside, the display is divided into three sections: archaeology, coins and ethnography. The archaeological section presents fine examples from the Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk and Ottoman periods, offering a compact view of how this mining province was shaped by successive cultures.

According to the Ministry’s listing it opens at 08:00 and closes at 17:00 (last entry 16:30). Closed: Monday.
