A traditional house of 1858 on the Black Sea coast that pairs finds from the İkiztepe excavations with rooms recreating everyday Bafra life.
The Bafra Museum occupies a civil-architecture house built in 1858 that reflects local building traditions, and it has served as a museum since 2011. The house itself is part of the visit, and it makes a fitting setting for a collection about the region's people.
The archaeological halls follow the history of the Bafra area from the Late Chalcolithic layers of the İkiztepe excavation, around 4300 BC, through to the end of the Eastern Roman period. Objects trace the civilisations that lived on this stretch of the Kızılırmak delta over several thousand years.
The ethnographic halls turn to more recent times. A kitchen, a sitting room and a bedroom are arranged as they would have been in a traditional Bafra home, and display cases hold Ottoman-era items of Turkish culture. Together the two sections give a compact, readable picture of the town from prehistory to the early twentieth century.
